Radio Appearance Tonight!

This evening at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time (7 PM Central) I will be appearing on Deeper Down the Rabbit Hole on the Para-X Radio Network. I’ll be discussing Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy, my ongoing Enochian magical practice, and my work with ceremonial ritual forms. I’ve never appeared on one of these shows before, so I’m not really sure what to expect – but you can be there for my first radio appearance ever! Here’s the Facebook event page for my appearance so you can RSVP if you plan on listening, and I hope you’ll join us for what should be a fun and enlightening discussion.

Online Radio Appearance June 12th

On the evening of June 12th at 8 PM I will be appearing on Deeper Down the Rabbit Hole, an online radio show that runs on the Para-X Radio network. I’ll be discussing Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy, Enochian magick, and my interpretation of ceremonial ritual forms.

I’ve touched on all those topics over on Augoeides, but this will be your first chance to hear me discuss it live and in-person. I’ve never appeared on one of these shows before so I hope you’ll tune in and check it out.

CONvergence 2011

This coming weekend is Convergence 2011, the Twin Cities’ largest fantasy and science fiction convention. It runs from Thursday evening through Sunday, and I’ll be mounting a more agressive postering and flyering effort for Arcana and my Augoeides blog this year than I managed to pull off last year. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up a few sales, and even if I don’t several thousand more people who read science fiction and fantasy should at least be made aware of my novel’s existence.

I’ll be at the convention with copies to sign, so if you see me there don’t hesitate to ask. I haven’t put anything up on BookTour since I’m not sure of the exact times I’ll be out there, but your best bet is probably going to be Friday and Saturday evenings, which are the convention’s biggest nights. I usually loop through ConSuite on a fairly regular basis, so I’m rarely all that hard to find.

Hope to see you there!

Planetary Magick Presentation at Paganicon

With my new job I’ve been too busy to do any events over the last couple of months, but my next appearance is approaching fast. I will be giving a presentation on planetary magick at Paganicon, a new Pagan convention that is being held at the DoubleTree Park Place hotel in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

The presentation will be given at 1 PM on Saturday, March 26th in the Courtyard 3 room. You can see the full schedule for the weekend here. I have a lot of good material put together based on my magical working group’s operations involving the traditional Angels, Intelligences, and Spirits of the seven ancient planets, so it should involve more traditional ceremonial magick than one generally sees at Pagan events.

I will also be appearing at 10:30 that same Saturday morning as part of a panel entitled “So You Want To Be A Pagan Author?” with my friend and fellow magick blogger Frater Barrabbas, fellow Pendraig author Veronica Cummer, and a number of other writers. There will likely be an impromptu book signing or two at some point on Saturday as well.

Hope to see you there!

Next Up: Arcana at Arcana

So it turns out that right here in Minnesota there is a convention of the dark fantastic called – yes, you guessed it – Arcana, just like my novel. The convention has been running since the 1970’s and, believe it or not, I only found out about it this year so the title of the novel is a total coincidence. Either that or an omen. I will be attending Arcana to promote Arcana, and will be there both Friday and Saturday evenings with signed copies for anybody who would like to pick one up.

Arcana runs from October 15-17 at the Best Western Bandana Square in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The address is:

1010 Bandana Boulevard W
Saint Paul, MN 55108

You can register to attend here at the Arcana convention web site.

Hope to see you there!

Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram Workshop at Twin Cities Pagan Pride

My friend Michele and I will be teaching a workshop on the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram at Twin Cities Pagan Pride. The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 1:30 PM in the Purple Room at:

Lake Harriet Spiritual Community
4401 Upton Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55410

In this workshop we plan on covering both the banishing and invoking forms of the ritual and also a number of elements that are rarely taught but which nonetheless make the ritual much more effective.

Here’s a link to the full Pagan Pride programming guide, in PDF format.

Hope to see you there!

Book Signing August 7th at Magus Books

On Saturday, August 7th at 3 PM I will be holding a book signing at Magus Books in Dinkytown for Arcana. If you already have an unsigned copy bring it in and get it signed, or pick one up at the shop and I’ll sign it there.

Magus Books is located at:

1309 1/2 4th Street S.E.
Minneapolis, MN 55414

If you’re familiar with Dinkytown, the shop is right across the street from the Varsity Theater. The phone number is 612-379-7669.

Hope to see you there!

CONvergence is Imminent

Connie Mark 2It’s Fourth of July weekend, so as usual I will be at CONvergence, one of the largest science fiction and fantasy conventions in the Midwest.

Last year about three thousand people showed up and the convention gets bigger every year. This is a great opportunity to reach a ton of folks, both local and from out of town, who I expect should enjoy Arcana. Since I have a book to promote this time around there will be many posters and flyers which I’ve been printing up as fast as I can. I put some flyers out at Minicon, a much smaller convention, over Easter weekend and saw a definite uptick in sales about a week later. I’m hoping that I’ll get a bigger boost in July since CONvergence has so many more attendees.

I will also have a small number of copies with me at the convention, so if you would like to buy a signed copy make sure you find me before they are all gone. I generally wander around the place checking out parties so I can’t say for sure where I’ll be at any given time, but I usually pass through Consuite on a regular basis and if you wait there long enough in the evening you’ll probably see me. I’m planning on being out there Thursday and Friday nights for sure, though I might have a conflict for Saturday evening.

If you live in the Twin Cities or will be in town this weekend and have never been to CONvergence I highly recommend checking it out. The parties are great and the people are always interesting.

If you found your way here from one of my flyers and are wondering who the “select local booksellers” mentioned are, I know for a fact that the following stores in the Twin Cities have copies of Arcana.

Magus Books
Eye of Horus
Sacred Paths Center

I also placed a couple of copies at Uncle Hugo’s, and if they haven’t sold yet you might be able to pick one up there. Barnes and Noble lists Arcana on their website, but I don’t know if any of their stores have copies in stock.

My First Public Reading

My first public reading from Arcana will take place this Wednesday night, March 3rd, at Ginkgo Coffee’s Open Mic Night. Performances start at 7 PM.

I can’t guarantee where I’ll fall in the lineup, and I also can’t guarantee whether or not I’ll have additional copies of the book with me. I’ve sold out of my first order of them and my second might or might not reach me by then. Still, it should be a fun time for all – a number of other creative folks that I know will be performing and they’re very good.

I’m looking forward to holding more formal signings and so forth soon, but this opportunity just came along and I’m taking advantage of it. Hope to see you there!

Arcana At Pantheacon

This coming weekend Pendraig Publishing will be vending at Pantheacon 2010 in San Jose, California. If you happen to be attending the convention, it would be a perfect time to pick up a copy of my book. Of course, it would also be a good opportunity to check out Pendraig’s other fascinating titles as well.

Sadly, I won’t be able to make it out there this year due to my work schedule and recent medical issues so you won’t be able to get yourself a signed copy, but I hope to be able to make it to conventions and festivals such as Pantheacon next year. Until then, if you are going here’s wishing you a safe trip and a wonderful weekend. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

Update: As it turns out, you probably will have to order the book after all. I just found out that Pendraig won’t be vending because Pantheacon already has Llewellyn and Field Books there and didn’t want any other publishers vending. That’s one of the downers of a smaller publishing house – bigger companies tend to dominate vending space. Of course, the advantage of not publishing with Llewellyn is that I don’t have to tailor my writing to the younger demographic that their fiction books are aimed at.

“Balzador pointed his Nerf shotgun at the head of the small plastic horse. ‘Hand over the grimoire,’ he commanded, ‘or your little pony gets it!'”

Nope, that just doesn’t work…
